Tuesday night I experienced the most amazing night of youth ministry. God was working in a special way as students revealed who they are and experienced God's love in a fresh way. This movie TO SAVE A LIFE has sparked something in our students that is causing them to take a good look at their own lives and how they can impact the world around them. I'm so excited for the next weeks as we go deeper... but I also know as we go deeper there will be some major challenges. Students today are faced with more stress, pressure, and temptation than ever before! Often they don't know what to do with all this emotion and so it comes out in unhealthy ways. If we are going to be the hands and feet of Jesus to this world, we will have to be involved with the junk in people's lives.
But here is the good news. Jesus has the power and love to deal with it all and help us overcome. This isn't a temporary fix.. this is eternal restoration!
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons and daughters through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will—to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves.” Eph. 1:3-6
God is saying... “I chose you before the creation of the world. I know you think that nobody wants you or likes you, but that could not be further from the truth. You are holy and blameless in my sight.. without blemish. You have been told your whole life that you are deformed, imperfect, or less than... but I’m telling you that you are absolutely perfect, and I made you. You are my masterpiece... my ultimate work of art!" In love, God has adopted us as His sons and daughters in Jesus Christ. It does not matter if you have a natural dad or not... now we all have a heavenly Father.
We cannot begin to look out into a world of hurting and broken people and truly love them for who they are until we realize in our hearts and souls that God loves us exactly for who we are... inside and out.
I encourage you to spend some time with the scripture above (and others like it) and just work it over and over in your mind. Then begin to speak these truths (out loud) over your life. Then go out and say hi to 10 people you would normally just walk by and see what God does!
